okay good evening everybody just want to thank everybody for being here this evening we wanted have a town hall to just keep you guys in and I see your bottom line says be safe and to stay open a welcome thank you for being here so tonight's Town Hall we're going to just work on or focusing on activity we're going to just talk a little bit about our new Chancellor updates in this team and talk about school climate safety and culture reporting and tracing remote day procedures when it's a snow day and will go to FAQ use an upcoming reminders good evening so I know we are all coming in from different points right now so I may be at work I mean from work multitasking multitasking at home so we just want to ground ourselves if I felt the moment before we move into tonight conversation so we're going to take about five minutes to engage in some mindful breathing mindful breathing rise and rest your hands on your knees bring your awareness to the touch of your body on your seat feel the weight of your body on your chair or cushion Begin by finding a comfortable posture and slightly forward and back do one side and then the other find a comfortable balance as you come back to the center now sitting up straight fill your head on the top of your neck how can you set so that your head neck and back feel most comfortable take a few deep breaths but you are breathing deeply relax your shoulders is stomach muscles the muscles in your face and your hair and your legs let go of all the tension in your body I'll bring your attention back to your breath where do you feel it most in your nose or your stomach in the rise and fall of your test just noticed where you feel it most and allow your breathing to be natural and relaxed now notice what the bath feels like as it enters through your nose goes down your throat filling your lungs and back out through your nose noticed your stomach and chest rise and fall with each inhale and exhale and allow your breathing to be now and relaxed now bring your weariness to the sensation of your breath in your nose feel your breath as it comes in and goes out just focus on the sensation of pain engine to eat inhale and exhale when your mind wanders or if you become distracted just notice what's going on in your head and then gently bring your attention back to your breath going in and out focus on the sensation of your bath in the foreground allowing thoughts and feelings to come and go in the background now gently bring your attention back to the touch of your body on your seat and open your eyes thank you we hope that your child or children has shared with you that we are it's very much in great engaged in social emotional learning and we often practice mindful breathing mindfulness just the state of just being aware of how you feeling and learning different types to fend for ourselves and we want to make sure that this learning is transferring from the school building to the home because we are a community of Learners so we thank you. We also want to bring aware to the caption that are in our zoom in Spanish that is how we will be translating our presentation thank you this request thank you for leading us to that exercise that is relaxing to get us focused on what our work is here so as you may or may not know, we have a new barrel for the City of New York that comes a new Chancellor so on January 1st chance of David C Banks was nominated or became not nominated Sumit was bestowed the honor of being on your Chancellor mr. Banks has Bronx Roots he is a former principal of former teacher next thing as a former principal of to Bronx schools is the CEO of Eagle Academy in the foundation and he was a founding principal of Eagle Academy are the boys in the Bronx is goal that we met with him a couple times just zoom and Microsoft team is goal is to keep School safe and to keep them open and as more information comes out from the answer for us we'll be sure with you guys as well so quick update and share from my work I meant and wellness team during the month of November we had a climate walk with with just talk about our school culture and this was done by Ramapo children services a highlight or a blow was that a u model of 5 to have organized structures and great relationship between students and students students and staff went to areas that we were noted for growth that we could emphasize more and do better. you visited our building we had beautiful poster that wording around about our Falcons expectation yet they notice that we didn't use this language in our everyday interactions or in just our excitement throughout the building so we are launching back Falcons expectations so you may hear your child talk about my whole 5000 they may be bringing in different rewards that they received for being soft within our school we also are going to work on making sure during our lunch and our transition we check in with student called We're mindful with them you just wanted to share that very quickly is a sample of the poster of our Falcons expectation each letter stands for something so it's Falcon we are focused we are accountable we are learner's we always compassionate Open my did Noble doing the right thing regardless of who's watching and we bout to keep my profile state with that we encourage everyone not encouragement mandate mask on and up so please always enjoy your child is coming to school with more than one mask so that they can change it throughout the day and they just understand that for every 150 they must keep their mask on covering your mouth and nose throughout the day yes it needed their time to take a mass break and private locations of the building but over all messed up and on for everyone in the school committee good evening everyone and thank you Miss Rockwood we're going to continue on that same theme of safety and talk a little bit about the covid-19 updates started in January to start we just wanted to give some stats on our neighborhood the ZIP code at my Hall 5 is located in currently has a high transmission rate and that's in terms of cases we are showing higher cases than the Bronx on average as well as higher than New York City's case rate that is to say that if your family has not yet been vaccinated we want to make sure that you know how you can make that happen will be sharing some resources with you. they're being given in the medical office downstairs in our school building and then there are also just websites to help you navigate making an appointment for a vaccination so you may want to make sure that you all have the information you need in order to get your family back summated if that is. Just about you're going it is that the CDC the Board of Education all makes strong combinations that everyone become vaccinated and not starting with children aged five and an up from there just to show you this was published in the New York how covid is affecting people who are vaccinated versus unvaccinated so as you can see deaths are higher if you are not fully vaccinated as well as cases so again recommendation is to become vaccinated we've also had new changes to isolation and quarantine as families have become impacted with this new variant we are going to talk through these Kiara Brew is our student council president and she is with us to help talk through some of the new policies and steps that you take each day as you run down that house screening hello everyone if you you do any of the five most common symptoms of covid-19 are there is a headache or sore throat or runny nose fever and cough you're either if you're at home you should notify you notify the school immediately don't come to school the next day take a covid test either rapid test PCR test a R Us at home test kit and take one again after 24 hours and wear if you're at school you'll be you'll be picked up by your parent or and then provided up and you should take the first one immediate and then at the 2nd ST probably later cuz each out at home test kit comes with T Test if you test positive for any of those situations notify the school in quarantine for 10 days and return on the 11th day and if it's negative Uncle test and your fever free for 24 hours without using any medication like Tylenol or NyQuil or any medication that you need to take or negative PCR test you can return to school a exposed to covid-19 at school you can receive at home test kit to test you will take the first home the first home app it says the day that you receive it like I said before if he tests positive you have to quarantine for 10 days and return on the 11th day and if your negative with no sim you can can you bring to school if you feel like you have cold like symptoms before 85 you should isolate yourself and and take the second test immediately if he tests positive same thing if I did it the first time you just have to quarantine and returned home if that's negative we will just continue coming to school as if nothing happens if you're exposed to covid-19 outside of school if you're fully vaccinated and AC automatic you can continue coming to school but it is strongly encouraged 3 to 5 days after exposure and if you're not fully vaccinated. You must quarantine for 10 days if you get about comparing Pizza & I get a test on ER after 5 digits food and you can return to school on Monday 8 Play Ciara and I just wanted to clarify that the policy is different based on how you were exposed if you if a student is exposed at school you'll be notified as well as those home kits being sent home we sent home home kids previously just so that all students had them you would get a specific notification saying that you have been directly exposed at school and that you should take that test as soon as you get home that day so that is exposed at school if you are you just have a family member who tested positive that's when you go into this I was exposed outside of school again if you're fully vaccinated you do not need to quarantine but it's recommended that you come tested that's if you do not have symptoms again if you ever have symptoms you are staying home regardless if you are not vaccinated and you were exposed outside of school that does start a quarantine for you where you can return after again testing negative and having no symptoms so if you test positive for covid-19 you'll report immediately to the school either teacher counselor admin quarantine for 10 days and and the positive test date would be. and then you return to school on day 11 you don't have to have a negative covid test to come back on the 11th day you can just come back during quarantine if you have severe symptoms and don't have to work remotely just take care of yourself first and probably take your health until you're a better and make more able to comfortably work from home if you are if you are I'm sick babe are able to work remotely make sure to communicate with your teachers and counselors daily and submit work on Google classroom cuz all teachers with some classroom all students have other teachers emails so they could communicate freely citizen test positive for covid-19 should email the School attendance email which is attendance at mall Aunt Jen to have Myrtle Beach excuse absences recorded during the time and will not be penalized for not attending school work will be provided for them and there are no late penalties I didn't want any complete drinks during quarantine students to complete assignments and Google has president remote learning on those days Carrollton sorry I was trying to find my unmute button sure thank you so much I we know that that's a lot of information care you did an amazing job of running through that we are going to share these slides with you all and the entire School community so that you have time to look over the and reach out if you have any questions after going through this cuz we know that there's is a lot of different conditions and and steps but we wanted to make sure you know that if your trial is quarantining or if you are a student was currently quarantining you will not be penalized for that and we want to make sure that we are supporting your learning if you feel able to learn home again if you're sick and you're not feeling well you're your number one priority is to get well since rest here are some of the resources that will be sharing each of these are a link it. involved testing consent there's also permission slips if you are interested in getting a vaccine at school quickly wanted to run through a few other reminders the weather is changing we had some snow the other day and school was open but if at any point the city does collar remote day which said that when when snow becomes an issue they're going to call a remote day as opposed to having a note Vista condominium unit okay cuz I need it for a long time or did it just switch just switch thank you so in a few reminders in case there is a snow day and we are asked to go remote so the first step for everyone will be to check their emails they're my whole V. Org emails to get a link for their morning meeting the morning meeting will happen at 8:30 so that the biggest step because if nothing else you get to that morning meeting we're going to explain everything to you in the morning meeting depending on what day it is after the morning meeting you'll have your morning classes or your afternoon classes if for some reason a student does not attend the morning meeting will be making calls between 9 and 9:50 to make sure that they are then signing into their classes for the rest of the day will have three to four classes on a remote day we'll go back to the bell schedule that we had during remote learning last year here is a quick overview when those classes would meet again will go over all of this if at some point we were to get a remote day due to weather we also we reviewed this with staff and students and we just wanted to make sure that we were sharing with all of you transgender and gender expanding student rights here at the school just to let everyone know when students come to us we respect their identities and and that is the identity that they are sharing with us are also getting opportunities share pronouns with us and as a staff it is our our responsibility it's Our obligation to respect students pronoun preference and also that students be called what I want you to call me once you I honor all identities at our school it's all so again it's our responsibility and it is their rights this also involves and weave the questions so we want to make sure everyone was aware this also involves a choice of using bathrooms that are linked to their identity so all students have the right to access a bathroom or a locker room that is consistent with their gender identity so students are able to make that choice if at any point another student says I would like to use a bathroom because they have questions or they're uncomfortable with someone else using the same bathroom is Sunday they have the right to use a different bathroom but students are a go to and again that does not mean anyone can use any bathroom it just means that if your gender is mail you have the right to use a male bathroom if that your gender email you have the right to use female bathroom and we honor students gender identity which they assert at school if you have any specific questions about this or to talk more we invite you to impacted us all financially physically but also emotionally and we can read that in the headlines look at the new look at our Windows look in the mirror even right and see the impact it has on us all through it the covid data shows that you know a lot of our young people haven't necessarily been very sick and we haven't really been thinking too much about it but the headlines are starting to point out some other things that we should be starting to look at when it comes to young people when it's the psychological and emotional in that covid is having on our generation so the Surgeon General actually put out I just sent in an application to the United States about being a crisis that our young people are going through and we wanted to take this time to just recognize that and share with you so miss Calderon I know you want to share something that we're doing we did with the students recently thank you Masala tea so we wanted to take this opportunity to show you the my whole five student perspective if you see in the slide we have the bring change to mine which is bc21 and it's actually a student-led club in the high school focus is on ending the stigma around mental health we spend the top of our presentation today talking about math and the various protocols we have now with the vaccine a but we will and we really appreciate obviously you're at you're supposed in those areas but he ours is something that the the students wanted to talk about so we can play the video we can see from the students perspective what they feel is important what is mental health mental health in our emotional psychological and social well-being is something that affects us in every state life watching every part and aspect of your life is going to take care of your mental health for the simple fact don't take care of your mental health is going to wear you down in a way that you would not want to be because I've been through it dealt with it it's only today we're introducing to you or mental health these are some questions that you can ask yourself to see if your mental health is on point have you ever felt like you're on an emotional rollercoaster have you recently noticed changes in your mood are you feeling tired lazy or unmotivated who is John and not talking to your friends and family how are you eating habits are you overheating or are you under eating are you keeping up with good hygiene and do you feel like alcohol or drugs are want or need if you answered yes to any of these choir it's time to focus on your mental health here's some things you can do you can speak to a trusted friend or even a trusted adult such as a therapist guidance counselor or doctor parents and adults listen up this message is for you don't be afraid of your child support focus us to you don't learn and teach our children to also persevere through these difficult times yeah I think that's so important we have a lot of families who have gone through so much before they came here at I hear the Beautiful Stories of families coming to the United States Crossing when they're like 18 years old and you have a lot to to be able to share with your child about how to go through difficult times and be able to start new so we are all going through that right now right starting new trying to get through a difficult time to take the time to be able to share your story with your your child and let them know that everything's going to be okay I think a lot of times we think that young people are just fine they're not saying anything they're in their phone but young people have always so much to say so if you can take some time to listen to them you'll hear a lot if you have some questions about how to like even talk to you or your child Miss Rosa is always organizing workshops for you to help give you more on skills then help support you as a family and trying to work together and build through this very difficult so we're here and we want to keep supporting you and the best way sometimes right us adults is to not think that we know everything and thus the continued to be that model to our children that we're always learning oh and also I was going to say sorry and see another important topic is substance use as well and the headlines are actually reporting an increase in the use of substances by our young people so we want to acknowledge the need
